Xavier

Now that Xavier is, in fact, Xavier, Therese and I have been debating how to pronounce his name. We could use your help... (and by that I mean that you can assist me in proving her wrong). So, cast your vote:

a) "Ha" vier (like Javier. Spanish sounding)
b) "Zay" vier (as in, you just zaved me from a burning building)
c) Professor X (from X-Men)
d) WTF, why are we talking about this?

I never said I was a dictionary editor.

C is the only acceptable answer.

I've been saying it like letter B in my head. I'm really more interested in the why of the name.

Um...Zavier?!

I say the X, but then I also like to say Javier, which makes me think of Javier Bardem, which makes me think of "No Country For Old Men", which makes me think how totally awesome that book is and how equally totally awesome the movie is.

And then I forget the question.

I can only go by what our niece decided her son Xavier would be called, and how to pronounce, because I can't get that out of my head now.

So, the proper answer is B.

Or, D.

Or, as fadkog observes- what's the question?

Well, my brain always says 'Zay-vier'. And I hung 'Xavier' on him in the first place, if you recall. . .

Altho I have at least one friend who would say it 'Egg-zay-vier', or even 'Ek-say-vier' just because, you know, you can't just hang an 'X' at the beginning of a name like that. . .

But, um, yeah - why ARE we talking about this? Slow blog day in the mountain country, must be. . . ;)

Well, before I even read the answers my response was gonna be Prof X but how can one argue with The Father of Us All when he is, in fact, the one who made me Xavier Isidore Summit?

That is all ....

In my head I've always said it "Egg-zay-vier" because that's how I always heard it pronounced for the only other person I ever heard of with that name -- Xavier Cugot (I probably spelled that last name wrong, but you know, it's pronounced "Coo-got").
